zhong kui
zhong kui is a famous figure in chinese mythology and taoist belief, known for driving away evil spirits. He's usually shown as a strong man with a black beard, big eyes, and a fierce look. his image often appears in chinese art and stories to protect people from harm.
the most popular legend says zhong kui was a brilliant student during the tang dynasty. he scored the highest in the imperial exams, but the emperor rejected him because of his ugly appearance and took away his title. heartbroken and angry, zhong kui took his own life at the palace. After he died, the ruler of the underworld saw his talent and made him the "ghost king", giving him the job of catching and banishing demons from the world.
